Join the Brighton & Hove DesignPLACE Panel

Design South East has been awarded the contract to continue delivering Design Review services for Brighton & Hove County Council.

We are now recruiting for new panel members and chairs. The panel will be refreshed, blending new and established panel members into a highly active, current and engaged panel, who will continue to shape the growth of Brighton & Hove in line with the ambitious Brighton & Hove City Plan.

Brighton & Hove is a ‘city by the sea’ famous for its vibrant, cosmopolitan lifestyle with a strong commitment to the arts and thriving creative and digital industries. The City Plan is focussed on housing delivery while also meeting the needs of the city’s diverse economy, all in a constrained context situated between the South Downs National Park and the sea. With a limited legacy of derelict or vacant sites, these natural boundaries define and limit the outward expansion of the city.

Design South East will set up, manage and coordinate the panel to bring expert, independent design advice that rises to the design challenges of these particular Brighton issues.

We are seeking to recruit between 15 and 20members, from whom we will select a Chair and a Vice Chair. Applications are welcome from experts in the following areas:

  • Architecture, particularly:
    • high-density/mixed-use in sensitive contexts, including industrial and employment space
    • estate regeneration
  • urban design, particularly:
    • public realm, streets and highways
  • landscape architecture
  • conservation and heritage
  • sustainability
  • heritage
  • engineering
  • viability/development economics

As well as design review panels panel members will have the opportunity to participate across the breadth of activities Design South East delivers with Brigton and Hove City Council, including design training, workshops, charrettes and design surgeries.
