This is a 2-day online event; Starting on Thursday 10th February – ending on Friday 11th February 2022.

From heating our homes to moving around, the built environment and construction sectors are responsible for 40% of the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions. This 2-day Urban Design School will focus on achieving Net Zero Carbon and what that means for planning, development and design professionals. Attendees will learn about best practice, new concepts and practical advice for taking action towards net zero carbon targets.

Day 1  will explore the big picture of what is driving climate change and the strategic actions needed at national and local authority levels to drive emissions reduction.

Thriving Place Portrait Tool – Discover a new approach to sustainable planning in this fun, interactive session based on the work of Doughnut Economics Action Lab.

Day 2  will focus on the principles of delivering low carbon development, exploring masterplanning, transport and architecture.

Sustainable Design Brief – work in groups with expert tutors to apply what you have learned to a town centre site.

Attendees will get the most out of the Urban Design School by attending all sessions and it is highly recommended that everyone attend the first session on Day 1, as this sets the scene for the rest of the School.
