Design South East has refreshed the Brighton and Hove DesignPLACE panel and will now draw on the insight of 28 cross-discipline contributors from diverse backgrounds, including architects, urban designers, housing and regeneration experts, researchers, academics, environmental artists, engineers and planners.

Brighton and Hove is Britain’s recognisable ‘city by the sea’ with a strong commitment to the arts and thriving creative and digital industries.

The strategic vision for the city is focussed on housing delivery while also meeting the needs of the city’s diverse economy, all in a constrained context situated between the South Downs National Park and the sea. With a limited legacy of derelict or vacant sites, these natural boundaries define and limit the outward expansion. Design South East will manage and coordinate the panel to bring independent advice that rises to the design challenges of these particular Brighton issues.

As well as design review, panel members will have the opportunity to participate across the breadth of design support services delivered, including officer and councillor training, workshops, and charrettes.

The new panel is diverse, has an even gender balance and is committed to working with the Council on social, community, sustainability and environmental issues ensuring a future for the city as a resilient, low-carbon economy with regional and international cultural significance.
