Reflecting increasing demand for its services across the South of England, the Kent Architecture Centre is pleased to announce it has changed its name to Design South East. This change reinforces the centre’s role as the South East’s leading source of design support for local authorities, developers and communities.
For two decades Kent Architecture Centre has been supporting a better built environment. From its base in North Kent it has expanded to cover an area from Margate to Milton Keynes and from Southampton to Southend-on-Sea. With a focus on the design of the built environment as whole, and particularly urban design, it has advised on some of the most important developments in the region.
‘Design South East’ appropriately reflects the current work of the organisation and its range. Through partnerships with other organisations Design South East is also working nationally.
Design South East is one of 8 members of the Design Network, a new national network developed to enable the delivery of high quality design support across England.
Chris Lamb, Design South East Director said: “Supporting a better built environment remains the focus of Design South East. Our design review work is addressing the challenges of growth and delivering quality and is helping to unlock progress on sites through the clarity and consistency of our advice. Our work with communities is helping local people to work constructively with developers and housebuilders and to prioritise quality of place in Neighbourhood Plans. We are proud to be working with English Heritage to deliver a new national programme of Building in Context workshops”.
