This Kent Design event held at the University for the Creative Arts in Canterbury brought together parish councils, neighbourhood forums and district council staff involved in neighbourhood plans to explore best practice on how design and place-making objectives can be achieved through neighbourhood planning. We looked at wording to use for clarity in drafting design policies so they are likely to be successfully enforced.

Participants brought their draft plans, notes from consultations and early ideas and shared learning from other examples in Kent. We found the significance of transport and road design to be an area of particular interest, with two Neighbourhood Plans exploring traffic calming projects in the heart of their villages
