Alan Holloway

Alan is a founder and director of Upstairs Architects. Upstairs Architects specialises in residential and mixed use design and is based in North London. Alan was inspired to study architecture after being taken as a child to the newly opened Maidenhead library designed by ABK, where the space and form left a lasting impression.

Alan studied at the Canterbury School of Architecture where he received the Diploma School Prize and the RIBA (Canterbury) Prize for his final year design work for a library of abstract art. Alan’s interest in abstract art is a source of his approach to architectural design.

Prior to establishing Upstairs Architects, Alan was a Partner at Penoyre & Prasad Architects, where he lead a wide range of projects, including residential, health, commercial and master plans. Colliers Gardens Extra Care housing in Bristol received a Housing Design Award. As well as being a member of Design South East’s design review panel, he has been a member of the RIBA’s Housing Group and a qualified Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor.
