Claire joined Design South East in October 2019 as Communications Associate. Before joining the team, she worked as a successful freelance journalist, writer and editor working across several fields.
Originally gaining a BSc Hons in Psychology she became interested in the field of environmental psychology and designed her thesis around the notorious Red Road flats in Glasgow. From there, a master’s degree in Visual Culture, specialising in urbanism, semiotics and design. While building a career as a writer Claire maintained her interest in spatial practices by working with Public Works, Vitality Arts and Exhibit at Golden Lane.
More recently she collaborated with The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, Visiting Research Fellow, Dr Yanki Lee on a series of design research papers. Then with Dr Lee and Louise Wong from the Hong Kong Design Institute, co-editing a book entitled ‘Home Street Home: Hong Kong’s Self-Build Communities.’
Claire’s most recent project was with Manchester City Council in conjunction with the European Union’s Urbact programme, created new resources for sustainable integrated urban development in European cities.
