Achieving well-designed places was a member and officer design training programme funded by MHCLG delivered by Design South East in a variety of locations across the south east and east of England, each in a different county. The objective is to help councillors and officers use the planning system to deliver quality homes in quality neighbourhoods.
Each training session lasted 2-3 hours and was offered as a morning, afternoon or evening event.
Through the training we explored:
- What do we mean by ‘design’ in the built environment and its relationship with planning?
- What the NPPF says about design
- Common design issues in lower density urban extensions; higher density town and city centre developments; and new settlements.
- How members and officers can be more effective in securing high quality design
