This Learning Menu provides a selection of affordable, ready-to-go training sessions on a range of design topics. These sessions are aimed at local authorities or organisations that want to commission group training for their team.

Our training is relevant for a range of professionals, including planners, councillors, architects and others interested in improving the built environment. These training events are grounded in practice and aim to give you knowledge and skills that you can apply in your work.

We develop bespoke training programmes for local authorities, developers, housing associations and other organisations. Our subscription-based initiatives, such as Kent Design, provide a cost-effective way for a group of local authorities to address their specific training needs and to benefit from a locally delivered, high-quality comprehensive annual CPD programme.

Visiting inspirational places and projects and learning from the people behind them helps professionals understand how good design is delivered in practice. We select several exemplary developments within easy travelling distance and often deliver presentations from key contributors. The tours are valuable to local authority councillors, officers and those in the private sector.

We offer a wide range of training options for local authority and private sector participants. These range from half day sessions to longer courses that address specific training needs. Managed by Design South East, with contributions from respected topic experts, these sessions are informative and interactive. We also deliver short training sessions specifically developed for elected members.

Our conferences and briefings examine key issues and help to share and shape best practice. With topics ranging from the 21st Century garden city to new models of housing delivery, our conferences feature industry-leading speakers and attract large audiences. Our area briefings highlight the opportunities in a locality, engage audiences and build interest and support.

Our roundtables bring together groups of senior public and private sector players to discuss an area or topic in detail under the Chatham House rule. Lasting no more than two hours, the sessions are planned around the client’s needs and can provide several outputs; from feeding into government consultations to agreeing joint public/private sector approaches to strategic challenges.
