A major urban extension

Design South East – Canterbury South

The city of Canterbury has limited scope for growth within the city walls, so the majority of its 20,000 new homes will be accommodated in a series of urban extensions. But how are these connected to the city, and how do they respond to the natural environment?

The masterplan for 4,000 new homes at Canterbury South is critical to the growth of this historic city and the council asked us to review the outline planning application and to reserved matters applications for each phase of development.

With outline permission granted following our design review of the masterplan, a consistent group of panel members have been engaged in design dialogue and review at critical points through the planning processes.
