Surrey Heath Borough Council has granted approval to CALA Homes for a scheme for 215 homes as part of the redevelopment of the Princess Royal Barracks at Deepcut. DSE have conducted a series of design reviews of the Princess Royal Barracks redevelopment proposals, to be known as Mindenhurst, which will eventually deliver 1,200 homes, a school and village centre.  Two reviews were undertaken of this early phase. Gardner Stewart Architects designed the proposal which will sit in a woodland setting.  DSE advice centred on connectivity around the development, ensuring there was a convincing sustainable urban drainage strategy, and the way the houses address the public spaces and wooded areas. The development is subject to a masterplan and design code and the design review panel helped the parties resolve issues about how they should be interpreted.

Surrey Heath have a clear commitment to using design review for all proposals over a certain threshold which is helping them to improve the quality of schemes coming through planning and resolve design issues at an early stage.
