Joanne Preston

Joanne is an architect and urban designer with a background in architectural history. In her current role as Principal Urban Designer at the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service, she is overseeing the design of Northstowe Phase 2.

Joanne previously worked at Sarah Wigglesworth Architects, Peter Barber Architects and Publica, where she contributed to the design and delivery of award-winning public realm and social housing projects, and the production of a housing design guide for a national housing association. Joanne is passionate about community participation in design and policymaking. Prior to joining Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service, she worked at AR Urbanism, alongside community groups in Essex and the South-east to develop design codes to support their neighbourhood plans.

She is an alumnus of Public Practice, a faculty member of the London School of Architecture, and a visiting critic and lecturer at a number of UK schools of architecture.
