Design South East has appointed a 25 strong Design Review Panel (DRP) for St Albans City and District Council. The panel has three experienced chairs and is comprised of independent architects, town planners and other experts who will advise on the development of key sites across the city and district. It will draw on their knowledge, experience and expertise to provide consistent, independent advice to the council, developers and design team; delivering a number of exceptional new neighbourhoods.
One of the panel chairs, Angela Koch, describes the importance of design review, especially at a time when the council has declared its own climate emergency. She said “A big part of our job is to support applicants, the planning committee and local communities in building more sociable, healthy and beautiful places while reducing the often and considerable negative environmental impact of any development activity on the planet, climate, and biodiversity. I look forward to working with our panel members, the applicants and the team at St Albans City And District Council in supporting this ambitious agenda.”
So far three masterplans have been reviewed; North St Albans, North West Harpenden and East Hemel Hempstead. These sites are three out of 11 “broad locations” identified in the draft Plan which aims to deliver some of the much-needed new housing and employment for the district.
